Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) has retained Helbling to conduct an executive search to secure a Lead Facilities Project Manager.

Position Summary 

The Project Management Team Lead/Manager is responsible for the management of all assigned capital building projects including new construction and renovations. The Project Management Team Leader/Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing all project management services related to assigned capital projects and regulatory compliance programs.  The Project Management Team Leader/Manager oversees and manages the work of the assigned Project Management Group (three to five Project Managers) on all CHOP projects including highly complex major capital and multiple, concurrent projects of various sizes.

Expectations & Responsibilities

  • Independently responsible for the overall management of the planning, design, construction, and occupancy phases of major capital and/or multiple, concurrent large projects of high complexity to meet CHOP project goals and objectives.
  • Develops and ensures an adequate organizational structure to maintain project management services and meet organizational demands. Develops cost estimates/budgets; and tracks and manages project costs for all projects in addition to the responsibilities of the Senior Project Managers.
  • Responsible for supervision of Project Managers and external consultants in all phases of a project. Monitors and coordinates the activities of all consultants and contractors on assigned projects, including highly complex major capital projects and multiple, concurrent projects of various sizes.
  • Directs project management staff to meet CHOP capital project goals and objectives.
  • Responsible for the supervision of the Project Management Team managing the construction phase of all assigned projects. People leadership and communication are critical.  
  • Monitors and coordinates the activities of all Construction Managers, General Contractors, and Sub-Contractors.
  • Responsible for direction and supervision of the Project Management Group in developing and managing the overall project schedule.
  • Oversees and manages all work of the assigned Project Management Group. Solicits input, makes decisions, establishes policies and procedures, and makes recommendations to the Project Management Group that are recognized as authoritative and have a far-reaching impact on project management and related activities at CHOP.
  • Ensures that projects are completed at or under budget.
  • Ensures that projects meet or exceed established standards of quality.
  • Ensures that projects are completed on or ahead of schedule.
  • Provides for effective and timely project communications between all parties on a regular basis.
  • Provides effective integration of diverse and conflicting views for the successful development, coordination, and implementation of projects.
  • Prepares and maintains schedule reports, cash flow reports/projections, and project status reports for all assigned capital projects.
  • Represents the Hospital to outside agencies and other stakeholders.

Required Education and Experience

  • Required Education:  Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil Engineering, or Architecture.  
  • Required Experience:  Minimum of fifteen (15) years’ progressive experience in the design/management of large, highly complex healthcare, research, biotech, or similar renovation/construction projects.

Preferred Education, Experience, Certifications and Licenses

  • Preferred Licenses/certificates/registrations: Licensed Professional Engineer, Registered Architect or equivalent related experience.
